Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with Debates and Seminar Committee, Government Degree College Bijbehara organized an Inaugural Ceremony of “Chinar Inter College Badminton and Volleyball tournaments” today on 17th November, 2021. In this connection, Director Colleges, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai was Chief Guest on the occasion. Madam Director was received by worthy Principal of the college and other senior faculty members and soon after arriving, inaugurated the newly established browsing center of the college and carried out a detailed review of activities of browsing center and library of the college. A detailed programme was held in the college auditorium which started with the playing of college tarana. Guests and participants were welcomed by worthy Principal Prof. Nighat Fatima who in her address gave a brief profile of GDC Bijbehara and also shed some light on various co-curricular activities which college carried out during recent past. Madam Principal also highlighted various achievements of the college vis-à-vis development, academic and non-academic activities. Besides welcoming the chief guest and all other dignitaries, she also presented memento’s to worthy guests. A brief cultural event was also organized by College Cultural committee wherein students of various semesters presented a welcome song and a folk song to enthrall the guests. College also requested the Chief Guest of the occasion and several other guests to release bi-annual College Newsletter “Nilandrus”. Chief Guest on the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges in her address deliberated on the importance and significance of sports in our lives.  She emphasized that besides curricular and academic activities, students should take part in sports activities organized by the college as it boosts our immune system and keeps us physically and mentally in a sound state. Madam Director in her address also touched upon various aspects of NEP 2020 and stressed on adoption of various skills by students which are market oriented, so as to make themselves self-sufficient. Prof. Yasmeen Ashai appreciated and congratulated entire family of GDC Bijbehara for their hard work, dedication and presentation of college and their achievements. She congratulated principal madam for being a role model and for her untiring efforts in taking the college to new heights. She mentioned that it was due to her efforts that college was successful in adding 5 Kanals of state land to it campus after serious deliberations with revenue administration. On this occasion, Dr. Rashma Siraj, HoD English, gave a detailed overview of the activities to be undertaken under Chinar Badminton and Volleyball tournaments. A brief award ceremony was also held regarding recently concluded Intra College Teachers Tournament 2021, wherein winners and runner ups were awarded trophies. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. A. S. Dar, HoD Education. The proceedings were carried out by Ms. Meeshu Pandita, Assistant Professor Chemistry.  After attending seminar in the college auditorium Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai later inaugurated the "Chinar Sports Tournaments" (Badminton - Men and Women and Volleyball- Men) in the indoor and outdoor stadium of the college.
