World Tuberculosis Day



NSS Units of GDC Bijbehara organised an Awareness program on World Tuberculosis Day today on 24th March 2021. The theme of the program was "Clock is Ticking". The program was moderated by Faizan Tariq and Adfar Ara, 3rd semester students. Worthy principal of the college, Prof. Nighat Fatima deliberated on the significance of the day. She in her speech laid stress on the fact that all of us have to take it in as a moral obligation to prevent ourselves and our society from this contagious and highly infectious disease which claims around 4500 lives a day. She also assured that in near future our college will conduct sample collection and testing in collaboration with the medical team of the catchment area so as to give practical shape to the program. Further she emphasized that despite TB being a deadly disease, it is preventable, treatable and curable, so it becomes our responsibility to take an initiative and make the society TB free. Dr Rashma Siraj, NSS programme Officer, highlighted the theme of the program Clock is Ticking. She in her speech said that it is "wake up call" as there is not much time . Although world has committed to end this epidemic by 2030, but actions and investments in this regard do not match the reality. India like other countries also has a gallant dream of eradicating TB by 2025 but we are yet too far and as such we have a collective responsibility to turn the dream into reality . Aabid , 3rd sem threw light on the day and elaborated various concepts related to the said disease. Muzamil of 3rd semester highlighted some important facts about the disease and mentioned that Budgam District of JK UT is TB free and we too must strive for making the whole valley TB free.
