About the Library
The Library of Government Degree College (GDC) Bijbehara serves as a vital hub for academic and research activities. Established in 2005, the library provides access to a diverse collection of 18,429 items, including books, journals, reference materials, and digital resources.

- Print Resources: Books covering various disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
- E-Resources: Subscription to N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content), offering access to over 6,000 journals and 199,500+ e-books.
- Multimedia: DVDs and digital learning materials to support interactive learning.

- Circulation Services: Borrowing and returning of books.
- Online WebOPAC: Users can search and access library holdings remotely.
- Reference Services: Assistance in finding academic and research materials.
- Career Counselling: Guidance on higher studies and career opportunities.
- Reprographic Services: Photocopying and printing facilities for students and faculty.
- Remote Access: Students and faculty can access e-resources from anywhere.
- Previous Question Papers: Availability of past examination papers for academic reference.
Technology & Digital Initiatives
The library is fully automated using SOUL 2.0 and has a dedicated website (collegelibrary.net) that facilitates access to various digital resources. Additionally, in-house software has been developed to manage digital books and e-resources, enhancing the ease of access for users.
User Engagement & Awareness
The library actively promotes Open Educational Resources (OER) and provides training on research methodologies, citation tools, and plagiarism detection. Regular workshops and awareness programs are conducted to familiarize students and faculty with emerging trends in academic research.

Rules and Regulations of the Library – GDC Bijbehara
To ensure smooth functioning and efficient use of the library, the following rules and regulations must be observed by all users:
1. General Rules
- Library Access: Only registered students, faculty, and staff of GDC Bijbehara are allowed to use the library services.
- Silence & Discipline: Maintain strict silence inside the library. Use of mobile phones, loud conversations, or any form of disturbance is strictly prohibited.
- Library ID Card: Users must carry their valid College ID Card to enter the library and borrow books.
- Personal Belongings: Bags, personal books, and other items are not allowed inside the library. Users must leave them at the designated area.
- Food & Drinks: Eating, drinking, or smoking inside the library is not allowed.
2. Borrowing & Circulation Rules
- Book Issuance:
- Students: Can borrow up to 2 books for 14 days.
- Faculty Members: Can borrow up to 5 books for one month.
- Renewal: Books may be renewed once unless reserved by another user.
- Late Returns & Fines:
- A fine of Rs. 2 per day per book will be charged for overdue books.
- If a book is lost or damaged, the user must either replace it with a new copy or pay the current market price along with a processing fee.
- Reference Books & Journals: These materials are for library use only and cannot be borrowed.
3. Digital & E-Resources Usage
- Computer & Internet Use:
- Computers are available only for academic and research purposes.
- Downloading unauthorized material or accessing social media sites is prohibited.
- E-Resources (N-LIST, Open Access Journals, Digital Books):
- Users should access e-resources only for educational purposes.
- Sharing login credentials or misusing digital content will lead to suspension of library privileges.
4. Library Conduct & Ethics
- Misuse of Library Resources: Any damage to books, tearing pages, or marking books is a serious offense. Users will be required to compensate for the loss.
- Library Staff Instructions: Users must follow all instructions given by the library staff.
- Misconduct: Any form of misbehavior, theft, or violation of rules will lead to strict action, including suspension of library privileges.
5. Special Provisions
- Career Counselling & Research Support: Users can seek assistance for research, career guidance, and accessing academic resources.
- Workshops & Training: The library organizes awareness programs, workshops, and training sessions on library resources, citation tools, and digital literacy.
